Why Rohit Shetty and Akshay Kumar’s Sooryavanshi is a blockbuster in the making

Sooryavanshi, which marks Rohit Shetty and Akshay Kumar’s first collaboration, is destined to be a blockbuster at the box office.

From Golmaal 3 to Simmba, Rohit Shetty has delivered eight back-to-back films which entered the coveted Rs 100-crore club, making him one of the most successful directors in Bollywood. When it was announced that he was joining hands with Akshay Kumar for Sooryavanshi, fans went into a tizzy.

Sooryavanshi is the latest entrant in Shetty’s police universe and promises to be “action-packed, masala intact”. The film was announced in style, with a special appearance by Akshay at the end of Simmba as Veer Sooryavanshi, chief of the Anti-Terrorism Squad.

This morning, the first posters of Sooryavanshi were unveiled, with the tagline, “A bullet for a bullet!”

It is no secret that Akshay aka ‘Khiladi’ Kumar can pack a powerful punch. Though he started his career with Saugandh in 1991, he really burst on the scene with the action-thriller Khiladi, which released the following year.

Since then, Akshay has reinvented himself as an actor by mastering different genres and even winning the coveted National Award. However, his daredevilry remains unmatched till date and there is no doubt that he will bring his A-game to Sooryavanshi.

As his golden run at the box office proves, Rohit Shetty understands the pulse of the masses. Critics be damned, the audiences flock to the theatres to watch his films despite terrible reviews.

In an interview with a magazine, Rohit said that he makes films for the middle-class audience, who wants nothing more than “a few good laughs” at the end of a long day.

“We’re not Hollywood; travel 100 kilometers from Mumbai and the audience is not the same,” he said. “My critics go to Starbucks, read the news, interact with like-minded people and think that is the end of India. They do have a taste and a sensibility but the world is not them,” he added.

Sooryavanshi is a cop drama packed with masala, a genre that Rohit excels at. Just take a look at his earlier blockbusters in the genre – Singham, Singham Returns and the most recent Simmba. In fact, buzz is that Ajay Devgn and Ranveer Singh will make a special appearance as Bajirao Singham and Sangram Bhalerao, respectively.

What will also work in Sooryavanshi’s favor is that it is releasing on a national holiday – Eid 2020. For millions of Indians, what better way is there to celebrate a festival than to watch an out-and-out entertainer with your family members?

Even before Sooryavanshi goes on floors, the verdict is loud and clear – Rohit Shetty and Akshay Kumar will continue their winning streak at the box office and deliver the blockbuster of the year!
